I was exploring the campus of the College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, VA, over the weekend, and stumbled across this stunner in the woods:

Those berries stopped me in my tracks – I’ve never seen this plant before.

The plant is Callicarpa dichotoma, or Purple Beautyberry bush.

Beautyberry, indeed!

The purple fruit shows up in the fall, so I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

What a treat for anyone’s fall’s garden!

I found the bush in the Wildflower Refuge area on campus:

I think it’s super sweet that they even have a wildflower refuge, much less a bush with charming purple berries.
