I’m completely stumped on this one. This property is close to my house, and I walk by it at least once a week. Recently, it turned green.
Are they Irish? Is this for St. Patrick’s Day? Will it wash off when the next rain comes (approximately six months from now)?
Why would someone spray paint their entire yard, front and back? (I took these photos with my phone.) And their driveway?????
I just don’t get it.
It’s one way to go green, I’ll give them that. But really?

I wonder if their pets are tracking green paw prints all over?

Hey! I’ve heard of people painting their dead straw-like lawns green, but this is over-the-top!! I have never seen anything like this before. Qwirky ‘Burque does it again!!!

When you think about it, it’s more environmentally friendly than trying to maintain a lawn. Doesn’t work for me aesthetically, but whatever. The owners probably thought this was a simple solution to a problem that didn’t interest them very much.

But is it environmentally friendly? Doesn’t seem like spray paint falls into that category!

OK, maybe not friendly, I’m just thinking that if you compared it to all the water, weed killer, fertilizer, gasoline, etc. that would go into a lawn …

Gag! And definitely Quirky Burque – habitual spruces already hate it here, now worsened with all that rock to really cook them and the area, green or not. I suddenly want a vacation from hell, and I don’t even have a hell!

Reminds me of something that happened over in Big Town a couple of years ago. I don’t remember the details, but the town government wanted to have a grassy area paved over, and when there was a big uproar about that, they decided to use green concrete to “keep it looking the same”.
It did not help with the uproar.

That’s hilarious, Ivy. Green concrete, haha!

This looks a bit like the stuff TXDOT sprays along the interstate starting around this time, each year. A mix of fertilizer and pesticides to wake up the wildflowers. The green dye is mainly to show where they stopped, when they went to refill the water truck. Texas makes it look easy, but it takes a lot of resources. And they have more rainfall, as well.
Anyway, that’s my guess. I hope your neighbor isn’t a victim of blind ambition.

Hmmm…so they may be hoping for wildflowers? That never occurred to me. I’ll keep my eye on it and let you know. I’d like to know it was for some good reason!

I was also thinking the same as Joseph Brenner, I see this green spray painted to the ground along the highways where I live, I always thought it was to stop the weeds. And their yard is all rocks, I would imagine keeping weeds away would be a pain in the neck without some kind of all over weed killing spray…but it’s still awesome for St. Patriacks….or maybe they’re deathly afraid to get pinched by leprechauns???

Haha, well, leprechauns are little bitches, so I’ll give you that. I never thought it might be a weed preventer or a wildflower inducer, but either of those would make sense. I do know the house has new owners so maybe they’re super progressive with their weed control. I’ll update you when I find out later in the season.

well some people will do anything for a green lawn I suppose…. here in Dallas, during the drought season, some people get a biodegradable green paint to cover the brown summer grass. I understand there are golf courses that do the same thing… maybe its something like that

I have no idea, Claude. But I can tell you it’s no longer green, as if it washed away (has it rained? Maybe for a minute, not sure.) I’ll be watching for weeds to see if they start popping up, or if the green spray keeps them away.
