Let’s see what’s blooming in and around the house:
We have been getting some rain in Albuquerque, which is great. It’s much appreciated. The flowers in the orange container love it, as do the tomatoes.
One side note…I planted marigolds in all the containers to ward off pests, but something ate the marigolds in the purple container. Stripped them of all their leaves. Not sure who did that but I thought it was amusing. Whoever it was left the marigolds in the other containers alone. For now. I’ll be keeping my eye on them!
Inside, the Chlorophytums (Spider plants) bloom nonstop:
Lady Evermore, an Aeschynanthus, also blooms:
And so does the cute little Echeveria with her adorable pink blooms:
Thanks to Carol over at May Dreams Gardens for suggesting we post photos of our flowers on the 15thish of each month.
If you don’t have a blog but would like to share your flower photos, you’re welcome to email me pics and I’ll post them tomorrow. Hope to see you back here!

Strawberries? You’re getting strawberry flowers? My plants — even though they’re supposed to be everbearing — have stopped entirely. I’m wondering if maybe they weren’t mis-tagged.
Also: PORTULACA!

I share your love of Portulaca!!!!
Both my strawberry plants are covered in flowers and small fruits. They were labelled as everbearing, so they’re doing it right. Maybe yours were the June bearing? Mistagging is sooooooo annoying!

Huh. So what are we supposed to plant to protect the marigolds?

I kinda thought the pepper plants would protect everyone, but apparently not. Maybe some bugs like it hot!

As far as I know, the only things that manifold prevent are nematodes, and Im not sure how much of a problem that is in containers. I know if I want leaf miners, plant marigolds.
Portaluca was one of my mother’s favorites. this is the first year I haven’t had them growing. miss them

Hmmm…people on the Internet insist that Marigolds are great for deterring pests – maybe because of their smell?? – but I think you need to plant a whole bunch of them to see any evidence. Since this is my first year growing them, I have no evidence of my own. I haven’t seen any leaf miners, thankfully.
Portulaca is one of the most charming flowers out there. You should plant some stat!

Many organic gardeners (yes, even Rodale) have begun to admit that there is little proof to the many claims for Marigold as pest deterrents. In fact, most seem to agree that they attract snails, Japanese beetles, and small rodents (which see the rest of your garden as a little pleasant variety in their diet).
The strong scented ones are best for nematode protection, used as cover and turn under between plantings. But, you are correct. It takes a lot of them.

They definitely attracted something! I also planted garlic and pepper plants as deterrents but it’s unclear if they are working. Either they are, or I’ve just gotten lucky this year, sans for the Marigolds. I’m not sure how I would tell the difference.
I do still like how pretty the Marigolds are, so there’s that. Thanks, Joseph, for the info! Good to know!
