When it comes to art, Santa Fe tends to overshadow Albuquerque. But that doesn’t mean Albuquerque’s art scene isn’t alive and well. It’s not high falutin like Santa Fe – it’s decidedly more fun and down to earth.

Case in point, the Offcenter Community Arts Project. Every year they host a Folk Art Festival featuring dozens of local artists and a Giant Puppet Parade.

Instead of my normal houseplant talk today, I thought I’d give you a taste of the festival, which was yesterday at Robinson Park downtown (the same park that holds the farmers’ market, just so ya know). The puppet parade happened mid-day on the sidewalk that snakes through the park.

I think you’ll be able to tell that Albuquerque art is accessible, community-oriented, colorful and just plain fun. Here some scenes from the day:

Haha, a good time was had by all!

Did you enjoy the photos and the puppets? Was it like you were there, too? Did you happen to notice the Groom and Groom and Bride and Bride belt buckles, created by local artist Nikki Zabicki in honor of New Mexico county clerks who have been issuing same sex marriage licenses? I think they’re awesome! (The buckles and the county clerks.)

I hope you liked seeing the festival! I’ll be back tomorrow, see you!
