I thought I’d take you along with me to Albuquerque’s newest market, the Rail Yards Market ABQ.

Now open every Sunday, the market is located at the train yards south of downtown off 2nd Street in Barelas. Here’s the view from the Coal Street bridge looking south:

Since I risked my life to take photos from the bridge – let’s say the drivers are a little on the aggressive side and leave it at that – I figured I’d photograph the northern views for you, too. These are the views of northeast, north, and then northwest downtown.

Hopefully you can see that the location of the new market is cool. Off the beaten track for most people. There aren’t many places you can browse for art while a train ambles by within feet of you.

The market itself is AWESOME!

The market was started by a group of volunteers passionate about the Barelas neighborhood, who are intent on revitalizing the area. I’m a big fan of the project. They’ve grown it very well.

Here are some random photos from last Sunday’s market (opening day was May 4th):

Great artists, fun setting, live music, kid zones, trains, food, coffee, produce – what more can you ask for in a venue? I love everything about it. They even have a bicycle valet for everyone who bikes there. Oh, and food trucks and a bustaurant!

This market is a win for the Barelas neighborhood, and for all of Albuquerque. Keep up the good work everyone!
