Heyyyyy, a pretty visitor to the garden!

According to the website Butterfliesandmoths.org, this is a Western Tiger Swallowtail. They’re common in Albuquerque.

I’ve seen these butterflies around my downtown yard in the last few months. I keep wanting them to be related to my little parsley-loving caterpillars, but I don’t think they are. The yellow Swallowtails come from green caterpillars, not the stripey ones I had here.

This little guy was all banged up. He was missing part of his lower wing, which you can sorta see here:

These next two photos are obviously crappy – he was fast – but you can see what I mean about his wings being busted, down on the right:

Missing a big ol’ chunk!

He didn’t seem to mind though…he was fluttering around seemingly without a care in the world. He should be easy to spot should he decide to come back for another visit. I’ll be keeping an eye out for him.

Guess what? The Experts will be back tomorrow! Find out how they spent their early summer break. After the Experts Panel, I’ll reveal the answer to the current plant puzzler (you still have time to guess – the deadline is tonight at midnight MST). There will be imaginary prizes for all who play. Hope to see you back here.

About Me

Hi! My name is Liza. Welcome to my blog and thanks for visiting! I’m a Midwestern gal now living in Arizona, after many years of living in and owning a plant care business in New Mexico.

Plants are living, breathing creatures, and if they’re indoor plants, they are 100% dependent on human care. They cannot water themselves.

Please let me know if you have questions or if you would like help with your plants or garden. You can reach me at lizatheplantlady (at) gmail (dot) com or follow me on Twitter, Lizawheeler7.

All photos are mine unless otherwise noted. All content is also entirely my hard work. If you’d like to use any content or photos, all you have to do is ask. If you take without asking, you are a thief. And thieves suck. So don’t suck. We have a deal? Good.
