Eeeeeeeeee!
My orchid cactus is flowering for the first time! I’m very excited, because it caught me by complete surprise.
You see, the plant itself is large and rather unruly:
It’s hard to believe that this huge houseplant started several years ago as two cuttings, each about four inches long, given to me by a friend’s Mom. She told me at the time that it would bloom someday but she didn’t say what the blooms would look like.
I mostly ignore this plant. Sometimes it gets thirsty, sometimes I overwater it. I rarely prune it. Because it’s so large, I tend leave it alone.
That’s why I was so surprised to see flowers. I had gotten home last night and was actually looking at the Euphorbia that sits on a table below it, when something caught my eye. I looked up and was astonished and delighted to see the flowers. I hadn’t noticed any buds forming so it was quite the treat to see.
Yay for unexpected flowers in the house!
