Here are the week’s top plant stories:

I missed yesterday’s June 2014 Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day, and rather than make up for it today, I decided to show you some “unflowers” instead.

Like the birthday orchid flowers that finally died:

Wanh, wanh, wanh.

And these Allium azureums that died:

These garlic flowers (scapes left to open) aren’t dead but they’re weird:

I’d wanted to see what the scapes looked like if I left them alone. They’re weird but that’s ok, I like weird. I’ve since pulled those garlic cloves out (that’s the last of the garlic harvest).

There is some good plant news: These Osteospermums volunteered themselves to come back this year…this time in a new planter.

Just in time to take over for the pansies, who are dying off now that the temps have risen.

In other news, my plums are nearly ripe:

That’s very exciting news. The next step is the battling the birds for the precious fruit. I plan on winning that battle, because I can just pick the fruits a little early and let them ripen in the kitchen. Bird problem solved. (I’ll be nice and leave the top fruit for the birds.)

And finally, here’s another photo update of the Backdoor Container Garden Oasis:

That’s our plant news for the week. Thank you for being here.

If you have flower photos that you would like to share, but don’t have a blog of your own, send them to me and I’ll post them for you in the June 2014 Garden Nonbloggers’ Bloom Day. I’ll tentatively schedule the post for tomorrow afternoon…if you need more time to get photos to me, let me know and I’ll see about a delay.

About Me

Hi! My name is Liza. Welcome to my blog and thanks for visiting! I’m a Midwestern gal now living in Arizona, after many years of living in and owning a plant care business in New Mexico.

Plants are living, breathing creatures, and if they’re indoor plants, they are 100% dependent on human care. They cannot water themselves.

Please let me know if you have questions or if you would like help with your plants or garden. You can reach me at lizatheplantlady (at) gmail (dot) com or follow me on Twitter, Lizawheeler7.

All photos are mine unless otherwise noted. All content is also entirely my hard work. If you’d like to use any content or photos, all you have to do is ask. If you take without asking, you are a thief. And thieves suck. So don’t suck. We have a deal? Good.
